Fun Reading Games

PBS Reading Games  

This website is dedicated to reading games. Games include: Prankster Planet, Great Escapes, and Rhyme Time Bingo. These games help children learn letter, sounds, spelling words and learn word association.

Game Goo

This silly website is divided by Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced learners. Games include: Monkey Business, Alien Scavenger Hunt Letter Bugs, and Wizards and Pigs Poetry Pickle. Game Goo is dedicated to Learning that sticks! 

Smarty Games

Smarty Games not only has Reading games but it also has math, money, time, counting, color, dots and dress-up. Games Include:The Pirate Island, Super Micheal, and Space Mining. The reading games are grouped into categories such as, alphabet, verbs, stories, cuentos, and games.

Sight Words

This word memory game is designed to learn dolch word list. Kids have to match dolch sight words to practice their exercise. Grade Levels: Pre-K (3-5 yrs), K (5-6 yrs), 1st grade (6-7 yrs), 2nd grade (7-8 yrs).

Academy Island 

An unknown alien life form lands on earth and has to learn English to get by in a range of social situations. You have to progress through different difficulty levels by helping the alien use English in a range of situations.

Torture the Teacher 

Try your hardest to make the teacher resign by frustrating them so much with your poor spelling skills! You will have the opportunity to make three teachers resign! Be careful though, it gets harder as you move from classroom to classroom as the teachers in later rounds have incredible patience!

Trash Typer 

Help keep the oceans clean by getting rid of the trash. Type the word that appears below each item of trash then hit enter. If the word is spelled correctly then the trash will be destroyed.

Dragon University 

Enroll at the Dragon University as a young dragon and learn the skills and knowledge required before you can graduate and become a Naturally Speaking Dragon.

Code Breaking 

The letters of a text are coded in strange symbols. Break the code to reveal the message. Instructions: You need to drag the letters to replace the symbols and construct the original text.

Chickitionary 

This is a barnyard game between you and seven hens. Use the letters to spell as many words as you can before time runs out. Instructions: To spell a word, type the letters or click the hens in order, and watch the word appear.

Hangaroo 

The game of HangARoo is just like Hangman - guess the hidden phrase to complete a level.

Word Lab 

At the beginning of each round, you will be presented with a new word with only two letters showing. Guess all ten words by filling in the missing letters. Instructions: Using your keyboard, type in your guesses for the remaining letters before the time runs out.

Word Cube 

Click on a letter to start forming a word. Surrounding letters that can be used will turn red. Try to use as many letters as possible in each word. Words with 4 or more letters give you more time on the clock. When you are done with your word, click on the "Add Word" button to add words to your word list.

  4. I like all of the links that you posted. You were able to find some games that I think students would enjoy a lot and not really feel like they were doing school work by playing them, yet they would still learn from them. Plus, your background makes me feel like its summertime!
